Depression and Anxiety:
A Human Condition

Depression and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotional states that we experience. Our mind is the world's greatest storyteller--it never stops!  Like any great storyteller, it will say what it needs to say to get our attention. While some stories may be true, other are opinions, beliefs, ideas, assumptions, judgements and predictions. From this, two thieves rob us of the present--regret of the past and fear for the future.  If you can relate to this, let us talk about the story you are being told.

Walls, Obstacles, and Roadblocks

Have you felt like you have had to put on armor to protect yourself? Overtime, you got so comfortable in your armor that it became and extension of your own skin--forgetting you were wearing it.  It has really worked, and it has stopped you from being hurt.  Look at your life right now.  Are you still in a battle? Could it be over? How free are you to move?  While it is true that keeping the armor keeps you from being hurt, is it also stopping you from really having the feeling of being held, being loved?  What would it be like to take off this suit of armor that seems to no longer fit?

Interpersonal Relationships

Imagine that an individual you care for deeply, stands up to make a speech about the last 10 years of your life together. The message shared included what you stood for, what you meant to them, and the role you played in their life. They described your character, your strengths, and the way in which you have contributed to the relationships of those around you. What would you do differently based on the speech? What parts would be the most challenging to hear? Let us explore what has led you to want to make a positive effort in creating the story of you.
