FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Given Answers

Why Do People Seek Counseling?

You may simply be looking for perspective, an active listener, or a nonjudgmental atmosphere to share your journey while gaining insight into your story.  Some individuals might have identified specific problems in their life such as: anxiety, stress, depression, eating disorders, relationships or occupational stressors.  At times, it might feel less specific, such as: a sense of being generally unhappy, stuck, and just not knowing why.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Sessions are usually once a week. Depending on your unique concerns, short-term counseling may be the most appropriate; however, a long-term approach may be more beneficial for complex life stressors. This can be discussed in the first session, and a specific timeline will be given within the initial treatment plan.  I try to keep in mind that little by little, a little becomes a lot!

What Happens in the Process of Counseling?

A counseling session lasts for an hour, and is held in a private face-to-face setting.  However, prior to meeting face-to-face, I like to get a sense of your story and some general insight with a scheduled telephone call.

If you decide to move forward, we will meet face-to-face, which will provide you with an opportunity to get a sense of what the counseling process is like, and to see if I am the right counselor for you.

Throughout the therapeutic relationship, I will not give specific advice, but am there to listen, give reflective support, and assist you with changes that you might want to address in your life.

I keep a small caseload, purposefully, to ensure that I can give the clients I serve 100%.  Our therapeutic relationship extends the confines of the office with phone/e-mail check-ins throughout the week.  I believe this approach allows for optimal therapeutic growth, and I feel it shows my commitment to your overall progress!  Furthermore, it helps with the ambiguity and grayness that comes with the change process.

Is Counseling Confidential?

Yes, counseling is confidential. In an effort to be 100% transparent, I share all of my progress notes with you via a portal used within my Electronic Medical Records (EMR) platform.  I believe this transparency helps build trust, and ensures that I am correctly hearing/documenting our time together.

Do You Accept Insurance/How Much Does It Cost?

I am in network with the insurance companies listed on the Reach Out page of this site.  In addition, I can provide you with documentation to submit to your insurance company, should your insurance provide out of network benefits.

My fee schedule is $150-$200/hour.  However, as previously mentioned our hour extends the traditional model.  I understand that situations occur that can hinder your ability to pay, which allows us to construct a conversation around a sliding scale.  Furthermore, once we have established the therapeutic process, you will never be terminated or refused treatment because you cannot pay.  I accept:

  • Credit/Debit Cards

  • Cash

  • Checks

Receipts can be given weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly for tax purposes.
